Personally I wouldn't bother with taxis as prices vary widely in Durham - I live near to the Premier Inn and have paid everywhere between £5 and £10 for a taxi home! The 64 bus goes from the small service road next to the nearby Sainsbury's, every 10 minutes throughout the day, and takes about 15 minutes to get into Durham. I believe the fare is about £2 single. A day ticket is £4. To get to Old Elvet, I would get off at the stop on Claypath, near to the Gala Theatre, and walk past the market place and down towards Elvet bridge that way (about a 5 minute walk, all downhill). Hope that helps!
