2 night stay Mon 29th dec

Hello!

My wife and I are staying a couple of nights in Ilfracombe next week.

Just after a bit of general advice for an activity or two to occupy our stay.

We like the idea of a coastal walk, thought about starting at watermouth cove and walking towards ilfracombe on the SW coast path. Any advice on its good or possibly a better place to go? Rough idea of how long in average it would take?

Would love a walk which goes full circle to get back to our car if anyone knows one please?

Obviously quite a few places closed for winter season but any suggestions on where to go to while away a few hours?

Also any places worth avoiding that might not be so obvious from looking online?

Many thanks

Martin

For circular walks, try:

Mortehoe, park in the town and walk up to Bull Point Lighthouse then around the (steep in places) coastal path by Rockham beach and back to the village (1h30 approx). Three nice pubs there, too, if you like a pint or meal after walking.

Heddon's Mouth. Park at the NT car park or Hunters Inn then walk to the mouth of the Heddon at the beach, then up the cliffs and back around to the beginning (1h30 approx, longer if you walk to Woody Bay and back).

Cryode. Walk from Croyde (NT and public parking in the village) up to Baggy Point and back (30-45 mins, SW coastal path also lovely here for a bit longer).

Watersmeet to Lynmouth and back again (1h approx). Lynmouth is a nice village and you can also walk up to Lynton or go up on the funicular railway. Also museum about the flood is worth seeing and the little cinema at Lynton is very cool, too.

Barnstaple is fairly nice for a wander, Pannier market is quite interesting and the museum. Arlington Court is quite nice if you have NT membership, there is also a lovely circular walk in the grounds, the "wilderness walk".
