Restaurant near Deadman's Cay Airstrip

We are planning to stop at Deadman's Cay Airport while doing a bit of island hopping in our private airplane.

We would like to time it around lunch time - and are hoping that there is a grill/restaurant close enough to walk. A mile or so would be fine. Any info?

You could try Max' Conch Bar. I'm not really sure it's within walking distance to Deadmans Cay airport though. If you stop at Stella Maris Airport you can walk to the clubhouse or Moonshine Bar. Also there is an airstrip at Cape Santa Maria that is within walking distance to that resort and a gorgeous beach. Great food too

Yeah, thanks.... Looking at the blurry image on google earth, I can't really tell if anything is close to the airport. We will be visiting Cape Santa Maria the following week in a boat, and we've already been to Stella Maris for a stay.....so we were just looking for somewhere "new" to stop between Pittstown Point and Georgetown (where we pick up the boat).

OK, after doing some more Google-ing - I came across several references to Sierra's Club at the Airport. It's not clear which airport they are referring to.....anybody know?

We ate at Sierra's on our first visit. I'm not sure she's still open. Even if she is, it's probably not the place you are looking for. It's right off the airport property so you won't see much of the area if that's as far as you venture out. Even if you go to The Forest or Max' Conch Bar you won't have any water views, if that's the kind of ambiance you are looking for. Would you be opposed to taking a taxi somewhere? You could try Seaside Village at Jerry Wells or further south to Rowdy Boys or Flying Fish Marina in Clarence Town. Those are all great lunch spots although we haven't eaten at Seaside yet as when we stopped by last time no one was around. If you try his spot, call ahead first.

Best to take a taxi and enjoy the view at Flying Fish Marina. Max's Conch is a close second with good food and company, but not so much of a view.

BTW, the airstrip at Cape Santa Maria is privately owned and not open to public traffic in spite of Cape Santa Maria's alluding to it being "their" private airstrip. It is not. It belongs to a private individual. And it is also dangerous and rough. The airstrip is closed and plans are underway this summer to make it permanently so.

OK, sounds like a taxi would be the way to go. How will I get a taxi? It doesn't look like there are many facilities at the airport and I don't have a phone that will work there.

If you land around the same time that the daily commercial flights do then there should be a couple of taxi guys around. Otherwise I would have one of the airport workers call you a taxi. Or you could always call ahead and schedule to have someone waiting for you. There is a list of taxi operators in this guide on page 41. Or maybe Dusty-traveller can recommend someone. We always have a rental car so have never needed a taxi.
