We are planning on travelling to Kerry or Cork during August of this year and wondering which town is best to stay in. We have a small baby with us so looking to stay near in a town like Killarney, Dingle, Kenmare, Waterville etc.

Looking for nice restaurants, traditional music (will have other couple with us) etc. Things which make a holiday good.

Any recommendations are most welcome

While my preference would be Dingle, any of those towns would be a good choice

Killarney or Kenmare would be the best locations to tour from as Dingle and Waterville are out on the peninsula's.

Agreed, if touring is involved, but if not Waterfville and Dingle give access to better beaches, in my view

Thanks for all the responses. Would like to stay in a town that has lots going on therefore I think Kenmare might be the best however please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Kenmare is a good home base to have a look around Cork and Kerry and has everything most folk would need in terms of food drink and Music whilst being quieter than Killarney and far less removed from anywhere else than Waterville and Dingle, either or both of which can be done on Day trips. Beara would also be a good place to spend a day exploring.

Thanks so much, Kenmare sounds like the right place for us.

I just returned from the Sneem Hotel- and they have apartments which would be perfect if you need to spread out a bit more than in a b&b. it is probably 25 min. from Kenmare-and Sneem is an adorable town. You can do a day trip to Killarney, too. Good luck!

Definitely give Killarney a visit. It has some beautiful areas like Torc waterfall and Ross castle. The town can be touristy but even thats fun. You can get a jaunting car ( horse and trap) out to Muckross house which has wonderful gardens and the Gap of Dunloe and Kate Kearneys cottage is also a must. Avoid Tralee not much there.

Having done a week in the area with a baby I recommend Kenmare as a base. You're more centrally located to ROK, beara peninsula, Killarney, west cork etc so return journeys in the evening aren't as long. I found that was the time if day she was most likely to protest still being in the car.
