Hi
I am heading to Beara Campsite in August with 3 kids oldest is 8 youngest is 5! Just wondering where we should visit that would be good for them and also where to eat? Cheap and cheerful!!
Thanks
Is it that Peacock one or Hungry Hill campsite? Neither are near very much 'civilisation' - though you may find that a blessing. Water sports is the obvious activity there, if you don't have your own canoes, find a place near the campsite that will do some activites with the kids. Neither campsite has much in the way of kid stuff, the peacock one in particular has nothing ;-(( Tell us location of site and we can help further.
Edited: 9 years agoYou can eat in Teddy o Sullivan's pub its very reasonable and a fantastic place. Also Pedals and Boots a lovely café with free wifi and they also do bike hire and provide lots of info on nearby places of interest
Hi
Thanks for the replies its just called Beara Camping in Coornagalliagh! (that could be spelt wrong!!)
Also is there nice chippers in the area? Thanks
O.K,
Here are a few things to interest the kids and maybe the adults;
First, not to far from where you are staying there is an outdoor activity centre "Star Outdoors", lots of info on their website- http://www.staroutdoors.ie/
Also nearby there is a scuba diving centre/ instructor. http://www.kenmarediving.com
If you are looking for a good old fashioned beach Ballydonegan near Ahillies village is very nice and is about a half hour drive from you.
Chocolate lovers can check out Lorge chocolate maker near between Kenmare and Glengarrif, http://lorge.ie/
One more funky place adults and kids should both enjoy is "The Ewe Gallery" near Glengarrif,
As for fish and chips both Kenmare and Castletownbere have a few decent chippers between them although there is a greater selection of eateries in Kenmare

Hi the Beara caping site used to be called the Peacock. Its about 5 or 6 miles from Kenmare on the castletownbere road just before the Lake House Bar, where you can rent rowboats and try the fishing.
There is also Star outdoors centre which you pass on the way to the campsite, there's plenty to do here for the kids.
Lots of places to eat in Kenmare and surrounding area , try The Sailors Bar great food here and Cons restaurant at Star outdoors and The Lake House have a great restaurant as well.
hope you enjoy the hols.....
