Thinking about renting a place here for three months

Hello,

We love Scotland and have found a lovely flat to rent for 6/17-9/17 in  Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. We've spent a lot of time in other parts of Scotland, but very little here. We had some great experiences in Glasgow and stayed at an airbnb in Bellshill for only a night then moved on. But we've found a great flat for a great rate in this area, and we're going to use it as a base to explore.

Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, or helpful hints about this area. Is it safe? We are going to be using a lot of public transportation, so wondering if that is possible from this area.

Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much ahead of time! Cheers, Ali

It isn't near anywhere useful apart from the motorway and rail stations.

Hi Ali. Bellshill in itself doesn't have much to offer visitors but it has very good train links to Glasgow ( 20 minute journey ) and Edinburgh ( 1 hour ). There are also other interesting destinations on these lines like Lanark, a lovely old market town with New Lanark Mills nearby and Linlithgow with its palace.

You can walk from the town into Strathclyde Park which has a loch, a theme park, water sports centre, cafe, hotel and a little further on Hamilton Mausoleum.

There are also good local bus services into Glasgow.

I would weigh up transport costs though with taking more central accommodation in either Glasgow or Edinburgh as once the trains stop in the evening there isn't much to do in Bellshill.

If you are relying on public transport I wouldn't consider Bellshill. As others have said, it's not the prettiest and doesn't have much to offer. Somewhere even on the outskirts of Glasgow would be much better. Shawlands, Clarkston or East Kilbride .
