Hurricane Irma

So they are saying .. that Cayo Coco could possibly lose some of its beaches and possibly resorts and Cayo Santa Maria will likely lose the causeway which will be devastating to tourism. The hurricane is expected to take a turn north over Varadero and actually go further west of Florida than expected so Florida and Georgia will be hit but the Atlantic coast may be spared of previous predictions.

Saw a picture of Santa Lucia taken recently, rain, high winds and trees bending ... so far so good. Here's hoping all will be well.

Message received from the area, bushes blown away, some trees down, glass breaking but the worst will be Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo :(

For anyone who knows the area, Punta Ganado is wide open as it was when Ike hit in 2008 because its at the tip of a peninsula. Rumour has it that one home is gone already :( Thankfully the people in PG have been evacuated to Los 80 and Camaguey.

I have a scheduled departure on September 21 for the Brisas, I have friends in Santa Lucia and it seems that the hotels are a little touch by the hurricane, the beach bar and the restaurant is destroyed and it has a general power outage for a few days, it is the latest news

Check your airline website, some are posting details about rescheduling...I'm booked at ROC for September 19th arrival via sunwing....so far sunwing is only dealing with rescheduling customers traveling up to September 11. Fingers crossed that all staff and resident are safe and that our favourite resort faired well.
