Port Douglas & insects etc....

Hi, travelling to PD in December, never been there. Are there any major mosquito or insect issues to know about?

What's the weather like at that time of year?

Thanks

Right now I can teel you plenty of mossies in our car for some reason, but haven't noticed them anywere else. Not many flies.

You will love the rhinoceros beetle.

Weather is hot and humid though nothing different than you get on a hot and humid day down south except it is everyday, not just now and then.

Hi

Tropics - Water - Humidity = Breeding ground for mosquitos. That's just part of being in the tropics. You will have mossies around during that time, that is for sure.

But I wouldn't worry so much about them, just get some good repellent (I only used Bushman) and you are fine.

Port Douglas is a great spot to visit and you will enjoy your time up there!!

There are box jellyfish this time of year, however many beaches have nets to protect you and I haven't seen jellies on the beach. Most people hang around the resort swimming pool if they have any time to swimming !

The box jellyfish are found along the shoreline and not on the reefs. However during the summer I believe there are some other less common jellyfish that are found in tropical waters worldwide. For this reason some say it is advisbale to wear a stinger suit. Not a common problem but also protects against sunburn and can give some piece of mind.

Sharks. Not that I know of at all. I hear more about sharks in southern states, except for the reef shark that is something to try and see rather than fear. They may be present but not something I have heard about.
