1/2 day boat trips?

We will be visiting the Bay of Islands for an overnight visit during the Christmas holidays with Auckland relatives. Don't think we have time for a full-day boat trip to see everything, Hole-in-the-Wall, etc. Is there a recommended 1/2-day trip that we can take with our 8 and 13 year old daughters before returning to Auckland?

Thanks!

Fullers (a boat tour company) have a 3-4 hour "Dolphin/Hole In the Rock" tour that operates out of both Paihia and Russell in the morning and afternoon. Don't recall the cost but it's a nice ride. With kids, you should be aware that there are some stretches that there's not much (other than ocean and distant shore) to see until you reach the next point of interest. Might want to have something along to entertain them now and then. I took it last April and really enjoyed it. They guarantee you'll see dolphins...and we did.

The R. Tucker Thompson (tall ship) has an afternoon sail for a short trip....we are going to go with our kids 9 and 12. Looks like lots of fun !

Check out the Fullers webpage for a selection of tours including the "Excitor"- not for the fainy hearted, the kids will have a ball though.

I also endorse the Excitor trip. Since you've mentioned not having the time for a leisurely cruise, this one will get you onto the water fairly quickly & to view the major sights!

We did the Excitor trip a couple of years ago with our 3 kids and loved it! You go through the Hole in The Rock but aren't stuck out on a slow moving boat for half a day. I think the kids would enjoy this trip more.
