Great restaurant for a group of 10-12

My husband and I are coming to DC at the end of April with his company. I want to find a restaurant that has good-to-great food but also has wonderful atmosphere. We are all in our 50s so doesn't have to be that trendy, but does need to be warm, inviting and not stuffy. Cost isn't an object.

Have looked at MANY restaurant reviews and nothing pops out at me as being the right one .

I am hoping local experience will provide the answer! I hope you can help me.

Thanks...sue

It would probably help to know what you have rejected. And which part of the city would be most convenient.

I haven't rejected anything, as of yet, as some websites don't give many pictures so I just can't get a feel of some of the restaurants.

We are staying at the Willard, which is near the White House.

I hope that helps....sue

The newest restaurant from the Clyde's people is right across the street from the Willard and looks wonderful. I have only poked my head in and haven't had a chance to eat there yet. It has much of the same vibe as the original Clyde's or the one at Gallery Place. http://www.thehamiltondc.com/

Matchbox in Chinatown if you are looking for casual. Make a reservation wait times can be long. http://www.matchboxchinatown.com/

Thank you for your suggestions. I think we are looking for something on the "upscale" side, rather than casual. Would Matchbox be too casual?

There is always The Willard Room inside the Willard Hotel. It is certainly elegant and upscale. …about.com/od/…WillardRoom.htm

And Plume in the Jefferson Hotel is getting great reviews. http://www.jeffersondc.com/restaurant-dining/

J&G Steakhouse at the W Hotel is very good (and they have more than just steak). Starting out with drinks in the hotel's POV rooftop lounge and then moving down to the restaurant for dinner would make a nice evening. Call them to see if they would do such a two-part reservation.

patches07 - btw, i love your profile pic - have fallen in love with istanbul.

matchbox - too casual for what you are describing.

i would recommend Jose Andres' MINIBAR http://minibarbyjoseandres.com/?miniBar.htm LOVE. along with Komi, the hardest reservations in town. call asap for reservations. modern spanish/portuguese. very creative

Citronelle - in Georgetown (French/Modern)

or Vidalia http://www.vidaliadc.com/ (American/Southern/Modern)

J&G in the W hotel might work. The rooftop terrace for a cocktail or two before would be a nice start to the evening. i jus don't like the red velvet banquettes.

*******

The Hamilton is pretty new but the environment is nice. the menu may be a bit casual for you, but the setting warm and comfortable. it does have live blues downstairs. thehamiltondc.com/sites/…20Menu.pdf

Minibar, I think, only has 6 seats, so it won't work too well for your group.
