How long to deplane & go through customs in Belize City?

We arrive at 345pm and last water taxi to Caye Caulker is 530pm. Air field to CC is closed and trying not to have to fly to San Pedro for just one night to ferry in am or stay in Belize City for one night. Thank you!!

Usually not very long, but, if there are multiple international arrivals, it could take a while. A couple of weeks ago, we were though Immigration, collected our bags, grabbed some Guatemalan rum in duty free, and through Customs in about 20 minutes.

It’s a small airport, there aren’t any long concourses to traverse.

Traveling carry on only - recommended anyway - would help; when we've had any delays leaving the airport it's been waiting for checked luggage; we check fishing stuff that isn't allowed in carryons. Also, sitting near the front of the plane can help.

Where are you coming from and what type of aircraft is it? These are important factors. If it is a big aircraft, then sitting near the front MIGHT help but the bottleneck will probably be the luggage and not the de-planning. This is a very small airport. IF the flight arrives on time, I think you have at least a 90% chance of catching the boat. Buying the boat tickets on-line in advance would be highly advisable, even if you risk eating the price of the boat ticket, should the flight be delayed.

Another factor is the day of the week. If M-F, taxi from airport to dock will take longer than if on Sat, which will take longer than if on Sun. So give more info and we can assess your chances more accurately.

Obviously travelling with carryon only is superior in theory but for travelers like me, is never possible in practice. So it depends on what kind of a trip you are doing. Certainly it would increase your chances of catching the boat.

When we arrived a couple weeks ago, we were in about the 9th row. By the time we got through Immigration our bags were waiting. They seem faster than they used to be.

Sometimes they also open the back door of the plane, so, people in the back are off the plane quickly. There are no jet bridges, just stairs.

It has never taken more than about 45 minutes for me, and that includes waiting for luggage (the longest delays for me). A recent Belize TV news report about airport delays said queues were longest on Fridays & Saturdays.

As long as you're out of the airport terminal before 5pm, you should make the last boat (it's about 20 minutes to the water taxi terminal).

As long as you are out of the terminal AND into the cab AND have your boat ticket!
