Lodging in Monteverde and La Fortuna March 3-8

My wife and I are looking for lodging suggestions for Monteverde (3 nights) and La Fortuna (3 nights) area. Is 3 nights at each location a good split. This is our 1st trip so not familiar with the area. We would like to keep the budget around $150 per night, but we can be flexible. We don't plan on renting a car we need to rely on shuttles and taxi, etc. We need somewhere that this would be possible. We looked at Arenal Lodge but it appears to be booked. We also looked at Kokoro, Any help would be appreciated. We want to do a lot of hiking and perhaps a day trip to Cano Negro.

Thanks in advance.

In Arenal I do like Hotel Kokoro very much, also Lomas del Volcan, Villas Vilma is an exceptional value, and if you don't mind using taxis for longer distances, the Tree House hotel is very special. You can also stay at a very unique place on Lake Arenal, La Mansion Inn, and the owners can make arrangements for tours and activities to get you transported.

For Monteverde, I highly recommend Los Pinos. You can walk to some restaurants and stores and even to Santa Elena. It's centrally located, in your budget, and the people there are exceptionally helpful.

Thanks for the info. We did reserve Los Pinos. We are undecided for La Fortuna. We like Lomas del Volcan and Hotel El Silencio del Campo has some very good reviews also and like the fact that hot springs are on site. Whats your opinion between these two? We are getting the cost for the tree house, looks very nice but may be a little too far out. La Mansion Inn is unique but a budget buster. Still looking at Kokoro.

If you want an on-site hot springs, Kokoro would have everything that you need and the location is very convenient.

If you were intrigued with La Mansion Inn, you can try to negotiate with them; the owners, Peggy and Leo, often offer specials. The location seems remote but they're close to the hanging bridges and they offer some very good tours from the hotel. Also, they are closer to Monteverde and on the road between the two locations.

Enjoy Los Pinos. The deluxe cabins are worth it if you are a couple. They're a great value for $150/ night.
