Hondurs in October - 1 week

Hi all, a couple of questions:

Going to Nicaragua in Oct, and thinking about going up to Honduras for a week, but understand it is rainy season in both. Has anyone been in October and can advise kind of what the weather is like?

We'll only have a week in Honduras if we go. Any tips / advice on the best way to spend the time?

It IS rainy season in both. The weather will likely be gray, rainy in the afternoon or all day (but not monsoon rains, just rain), and cooler than usual - which is still fairly warm along the coasts.

I would suggest spending two or three days near La Ceiba, at a jungle lodge like Omega Lodge or the community cabins Cabanas del Bosque (www.cangrejal.com), and go hiking and white water rafting. (Omega has a very good reputation for its white water trips, other outfits less so, so be careful in your selection and do not base just on price). YOu can also arrange things through Omega like horseback riding on the beach.

If the weather gives you a surprise and is nice, you can go from Nueva Armenia (near La Ceiba) for a day or overnight to the Cayos Cochinos - spectacular Carribbean islands.

Then take your remaining days and head to Copan, and spend two days visiting the town and the Mayan ruins.

Also, La Ruta Moskitia, EcoAventuras La Moskitia and Omega Lodge all offer excellent trips to the Mosquito Coast of Honduras, through the jungle, etcetera. Google and you can find the websites. Yes, you have a guide, but you need one to visit that region, and they are fantastic expeditions.
