Hello forum! I'm afraid I know very little of Africa north of the Sahara. Does anyone have any really great resources/guidebooks they can recommend for Algeria currently?
Thanks so much,
Alex

You can buy a guidebook from Lonely Planet but via for example Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Lonely-Planet-Algeria-Country-Guide/dp/1741790999
But it is good, I bought then when I did trip there and it was very good one.
But I see it is old one from year 2007 - but anyway Sahara is the same, activity also
and you can read much about the country even here on TA - click on Things to do
Edited: 29 January 2023, 20:15Petit Futé has a 2020 guide, French language only. I think it is the only guide printed on Algeria that has been updated in the past 15 years.
Some things won’t change much, but others will, like even some of the 2020 guidebook info for Algiers (written in 2018 or 2019) is out of date, with a lot of the old palaces being restored, the huge mosque in Algiers, the new metro, etc. Also the 2020 petit futé mentions that Djanet is off limit to non Algerians, so things do change even in the Sahara, although that’s more about the practical traveling info rather than the sights to see in the Sahara... which I think have been pretty consistent for the past 6000 years.
Thanks so much- hopefully my French is up to scratch that I should be able to just about make that work.
Khalima- I saw this mentioned on one of the other posts (https://www.scribd.com/book/486560103/Algeria-A-Guide-for-Adventurous-Travellers) but it sounds like you didn't rate it too highly?

Thanks, Alex, I not knew about that at all, I will look at this.
By the way, now I remember this thread - https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293717-i9843-k14130775-Cost_of_car_and_driver_3_weeks-Algeria.html
there I recommended to go to ancient roman bath Hammam Essalihine - I have not been there, yet, but count with to go there if I go to Algeria again which I hope - it can be interesting and nice
