Does anyone roughly know how much it would cost to get a 15 year old 1 litre VW Polo out of the port please? TIA
A lot more than its worth.
On average, about Dalasi 50,000, or £800+.
It's worked out from the value of the vehicle being imported. It used to cost roughly a third of the vehicles value, although I've never seen this written down anywhere
Tricky is right and I did see it written down in the Customs documentation once.
Also beware of additional costs. The agent in Banjul will not tell you when the container has arrived and so you will incur very high daily costs as a punishment for having been caught out!
Ah, Lhd or Rhd....!!!
Anyone who brings rhd here is crazy....can't use on the road and would you trust a conversion?! I for one would not!!! Caveat emptor!Edited: 22 April 2017, 05:09
I paid 48,000 dalasi for similar age Benz including Gambian registration . 4wd over 60,000.
They don't seem to be enforcing the r/h/d thing anymore but that could change.
There is even a London taxi driving around here now.
Junglefish , not more than it's worth here. A 15 year old Benz that you can buy for £500 in Europe will sell for £2,500 in Gambia.
And 'unafricanised' cars are at a premium. More or less viewed as being new.
Martin - I've sent you a PM with a contact of mine. Hope it helps you.
I've been reading on here about delays at Banjul Port. I hope you will not be inconvenienced if still true.
