Where to stay in Kibale area?

We are looking at two options:

Chimp's Nest and the Kibale Forest Camp run by Nature Lodges.

I would appreciate any feedback that you might have.

Thanks

Both lodges are in the same prize range and almost on the same distance from the park.

Chimps Nest is run by a Dutch man, who is normally around and runs the place. The lodge has a nice location as it borders and overlooks the park but the distance between the dining and the rooms is really far. (Better do not forget anything in your room unless your in good condition)

Kibale Forest Camp is a different set up as they use safari tents set in a forested patch, bordering a swamp. It was an upmarket camp before Nature lodges took it over. Service and food are excelent although the tents get a little old. The dining has a great atmosphere

We were at Chimps' Nest last week and the main building was undergoing a roof replacement. It was somewhat of an inconvenience, especially on rainy days. The bar was closed and the dining area had been moved to the game room next to the parking area, with no view other than the pool table and high elephant grass. If you are planning to stay there soon, we suggest you check that the renovations are complete.

Hi there,

I'm the manager of Chimps' Nest. It is true that we are working on our main building. The roof had too many leakages and we had to do something about it immediately. We are sorry for any inconveniences but sitting under a roof with leakages is also nu fun. The renovation is going on very well and we expect to be ready with the main building by mid February 2010. If you have any more questions about Chimps' Nest feel free to ask us.

Best regards,

We were at Chimp's Nest on the 7th, 8th and 9th of February and the renovations were not completed. We too were disappointed that the main bar and restaurant area were under construction. I wish we had known ahead of time. We were looking forward to hanging out in the main building because of the wonderful view. One of the reasons for choosing Chimp's Nest. I agree with Monteverde's recommendation that you check that the renovations are completed before staying there. The game room next to the parking area has NO view.

We are happy to inform you that our main building is open again since two days. We are very sorry for any inconveniences but the reconstruction of the roof was inevitable and had to be done. Now the main building looks even better than before and from now on guests can enjoy the fantastic views on the forest, the rwenzori mountains and the sunset again.
