Fruit and flowers at markets

Hi there

We are looking at visiting Port Vila end Aug/Sept and have read about the markets. Does anyone know what type of fruit and flowers would be available in August/September and roughly what prices? Hoping for pineapples, watermelon and idea of what flowers are available that time of year. Thanks!

All year round you will find various ginger flowers and Birds of Paradise, lotus etc. Google Images 'port vila market flowers' for an idea. Pawpaw and various types of banana are available all year round, its too early for mango and pineapples but you may find some bought in from northern islands. Coconuts, both green for drinking (the mamas will knock the top off them for you) and brown for the ripe meat are available. You can also get sprouted coconut which has the kernel turn to a spongy consistency like coconut flavoured pear texture called navaele. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bry6TX7qAzg

Also Pamplemousse... like huge but sweet grapefruit are available along with wild raspberries sold by the margarine tub full.

There is always lots of asian greens, wild spinach, lettuce and also local nangae nuts sold threaded onto thin palm sticks, garlic, sawtooth coriander and never ending sweet potato and manioc.

Have fun shopping :)
