Communicating w/ prospective Hotel

Been trying to contact a hotel directly about booking possibilities. Been trying to email them, and all I see are travel agencies there to take booking info. Is this just part of Lhasa's rusticity? To me where we stay is key, as is picking the travel tour operator.

You won't have any issues getting into nice Lhasa hotels. St Regis is nice for a sterile, western hotel-especially if you're camped out for 4/5 days to acclimatize. You can book directly. We enjoyed House of Shambahala much more, on the 2nd time in Lhasa. But then again, we weren't staying there for 5 nights.

If hotels are important to you, you may not want to venture outside of Lhasa. :)

Pick your operator first, and then they will assist with securing the lodging. You want to have your days secured prior to the hotel booking. Highly, highly recommend SnowLion tours. We did 11 nights with them in April and can't speak enough of their professionalism, their guides, and owner.

Just try using tripadvisor, booking.com or ctrip.com - you can read reviews and find hotel within your budget that you like best.

Actually booking.com and ctrip.com provides too much information which will be a little hard for visitors to choose, and also there is a difference of hotel for western visitors and hotel for Chinese visitors, comments on these booking websties can be different if they are reviewed by different natinalities, but still you can make it as reference. Based on my years of experience in Tibet travel, i suggest follow hotels:

5-star : St.Regis Resort Lhasa

4.5-star: Four points by Sheraton

4-star: Jartin Secret Hotel, Tangka Hotel,

3.5-star: Shambhala Palace

3-star: Dekang Hotel, Heritage Hotel
