Day trip

We would like to visit Nantucket for a day trip.

Firstly, we are in Cape cod for a week either side of memorial weekend.

Whe would be the best time to visit Nantucket?

Would be need to bring our car?

Which is the best ferry to use?( we are based in Falmouth) and do we need to book In advance?

Thanks once again

Hi, you do not need a car on Nantucket, there is good public transportation and the town itself is walkable. Also you don't need to worry about a ferry reservation at that time as long as you avoid the holiday weekend. The Steamship Authority ferry out of Hyannis has a special fare of $50.00 r/t for day trips on their high speed ferry (gets you to the Island in about 1 hour) It is available Mon-Thursday.

As you are based in Falmouth, it would be easier for you to do a day trip to Martha's Vineyard. The SSA ferry out of Woods Hole (a village of Falmouth) is $18.00 r/t and gets you to the Vineyard in 45 minutes. You do not need a car here either.
