There are lots of taxis when you come out of the airport. They are metered and safe. Depends on where they are taking you to for the price.

Use an official taxi from the signposted rank.

All licenced taxis in Dubai are cream with coloured roofs and they are easy to find at the airport, on the street from ranks and outside your hotel.

The starting charge at the airport is 20 dirham and at all other times 3 dirham (3.50 after midnight)

The fare to your hotel including the starting chareg will be approximately 45 dirham.

Taxis are cheap, safe, clean, government controlled and metered, with the meter clearly visable at all times

Hi

I am trying to get from Dubai airport to an apartment in Dubai Marina. Was thinking of pre booking with the aparthotel but they are quoting by 250 dirham so rather confused by the suggestion of around 45 dir for into the city.

That's because the other poster asked about a trip to Mankhool Road in the city and you want to go to the marina, which is at the other end of the city.

That said, hotels and apartments always charge more for an individual pick up than a taxi will.

A taxi to the marina area including the standing charge will cost roughly 90-100 dirham depending on where in the marina you are going so cheaper than your pre booking so you could just get a taxi

If you are going all the way to the Marina - assuming you don't have a million suitcases - take the Metro to Dubai Marina Metro Station - won't cost more than 10AED whereas a taxi from the airport will cost 10 times that. Both Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 have a Metro station and they are on the same line as Dubai Marina so you don't even need to change.

Enjoy Dubai!

You are not wrong with your statement but IMHO it does very much depend upon what time of day and year you make the journey. I live in the Marina and after a flight from the UK I would sooner pay the 85 dirhams than catch a 5.80 Metro with hand luggage and then spend 50 minutes in the Metro with the thought of a walk at the other end. Agreed I live in JBR so it is a 10 minute walk which you could not even attempt in the middle of summer.

Anybody staying in the Marina will have to walk at least 3-5 minutes to cross from the platform to a marina exit once they have decide which of the two stations to get out from and then depending where they are staying either catch a taxi (May - October) or walk and hope they know exactly where they are staying. (Yes I know the taxi drivers do not always know but hopefully you know approximately where u are going )

So a previoulsy stated by other posters , if you are arriving from the airport and are going to the Marina area getting a taxi is your best option

We have been advised by our travel agent to prebook our transfers from the airport to our hotel and was wondering if this was really necessary? Is it easy to get a taxi and how much would it cost to the Hyatt Regency?

No, it's absolutely not necessary as you can see from the above comments. Pre-booked hotel transfers are always more expensive than a taxi.

Taxis are plentiful 24 hours per day at the airport and the taxi stand is well organised and you don't have to queue for ages. In fact you usually don't have to wait at all. Taxis are government controlled, safe and have meters so you don't need to negotiate a fare in advance, just pay what it says on the meter at the end of the journey.
