Fujian Hakka Tulou and Cultural Trip from Xiamen

We are taking a cruise that lands in Xiamen and I was considering doing this tour

Has anyone done this? It is a private tour that I found one of the Tripadvisor sites

Thanks for your input and help

So I gather you have been there

How did you get there and did you go from Xiamen

Do you have other suggestions of interesting places?

Thanks for your speedy response

The tour will take a full day. From Xiamen to the cluster will take 3 hours with the new road. Some of Tulous are very touristy but that is limited to the ground level. The ground floor is all taken over by tourist shops but people do still live in the upper floors. Some Tulous the upper floor is open to tourist. Lunch is not really authentic Hakka.

It is worthy for a day trip. Plenty of tea but beware of tourist trap. Don't drink too much of the free tea as a diuretic you don't find clean toilet in the hilly area.

When we're there it was raining but we still enjoy it.

Above sixty enjoy a 50% reduction of admission fee. For a westerner I really recommend it. Just like the Great Wall I wonder how they built it.

Yes I went there. I drove from xiamen and spent a night. You want to visit the tulous. It can be done in one day with an early start but we like to stay in these small villages at night when the tourists are gone.

I understand the desire to spend the night but since we are doing this from a cruise ship this will not work for us.

Where else did you go in the area?

I appreciate your help

Gulangyu island is the best but can be very crowded (better in early morning). The Xiamen university campus is quite interesting as is the Nanputuo temple.

I noticed those - I will do more research

Luckily I have time - the trip isn't until March 2018

Once again, I greatly appreciate your help and information

Quanzhou is a really interesting small city, 45 minutes by fast train from Xiamen. It's an old maritime port that got silted up and the central town has a look and character of its own, very European almost. Good temple (Kaiyuan) and ruins of ancient mosque. And the Maritime Museum. While (like the Hakka tulou) an overnight trip is best, it's possible to do as a daytrip.
