If you prefer comfortable option, you can also consider to take taxi or even renting a car (especially when you have several places to visit in/around Malang), renting a dedicated car will be a better option to explore the place

Is there anyhing direct from the airport?
How long is the journey please?Edited: 18 February 2013, 06:31
Take the shuttle service from Surabaya airport to Malang. I recommend Zena Travel (+62 341 710026, +62 341 710027), tell them that you want to be picked up at Juanda Airport Surabaya. You will share the journey with other passengers, the cost is around IDR 70,000. The journey is around 2 hours.
You could also find other shuttle service company once you stepped out of the departure area in Juanda Airport. Some people will offer you "travel" to Malang. Ask about the price first before deciding to go with one of them.
Thanks again, very helpful, it gives us a few options depending on our arrival time.
You're welcome. One more thing, the shuttle service will drop you at your address in Malang, while for bus and train, you still need to take a taxi from the bus/train station. So shuttle service is definitely faster and more cost efficient for you.
Thank you all for your views
Just completed this trip...DAMRI bus from the airport to the bus station (20,000 each), should take 20-30minutes. We arrived at 5pm and it took and hour, the traffic can be crazy. When you get to the bus station, ignore all the touts and ask someone for the Malang buses. When you get to the correct section of the bus terminal, there will be big signs above the buses - just look for Malang obviously. Pay on the bus, 25000 each. Took us 2.5 hours. From the bus station in Malang, it's about 5km to the centre. We got a bemo (just ask for Alan Alan, it's pretty central) for 5000 each. Helios hotel is good (and dorm above it is cheap) if you arrive late and need a place to stay quick.
