Does anyone know the general demographic numbers and nationalities of the foreign community who live in the Phan Thiet area 6 to 12 months a year?
Nobody including the government even knows the population of Phan Thiet. They haven't conducted a census in almost 20 years, but the assumption is that the city hit the 400,000 mark in 2015. However, the police keep a record of the foreigners who have lived here for some time. The one responsible for the foreigners is officer Xuan.
There are just a couple of hundred foreigners that live or stay here most of the year. Originally, the largest community was French, but the Russians began to outnumber them around 2012-2013. There is a good mix of Brits, Aussies, Americans, Indians, Southeast Asians and western Europeans, but again, the number is not huge. A fair percentage of the foreigners here (probably around 50%) live in Ham Tien and another 20-30% live in the city center. Probably 30 or so live in Thien Nghiep, with an even smaller number in Mui Ne and Tien Thanh/Ke Ga.Edited: 07 August 2017, 19:08
