Honeymoon Feb 2010.

Hi there,

Me & my finace are trying to plan our honeymoon.we have never been to Langkawi and wonder if it is a nice honeymoon destination?

The main thing we are after is great beaches with white sand and clear water and being able to snorkel, jet ski and fun acitivites?

We are having problems deciding where to stay.We want

*Beautiful beach resort

*Big swimming pool

*Beach views

*close to resurants & bars

*somewhere with less children if possible

We are looking at Meritus Pelangi resort, Westin, would love th Andaman but too much for sea views & have read about Casa Del Mar.

Which would u receommend for a newly married couple...we want something really nice for 10 night and happy to spend about $4000 Austrlian for the 10 nights.

Also is the general cost of living cheap here...food, drinks ect???

Sorry lots of questions and dont know much about it!!

Cheers!

Dear Natnisbet,

Langkawi for sure is a great destination for honeymooners BUT the water is mostly very murky and sometimes we have problems with jelly fish.

Apart from this it is truly beautiful.

For you I can only think about Casa del Mar.

This is the perfect resort for honeymooners. The pool is nice and big enough to my personal opinion. Hardly kids around. Beautiful beach, excellent service, very best location. Plenty of restaurants in walking distance. Water sports right in front of you. You hardly need transport, which saves a bit of money.

Westin and Andaman are quite remote. Westin has a poor beach but a nice view.

Cost of living can be very cheap if you eat in local restaurants, Alc. is duty free but in the upper class restaurants and resorts a bit more expensive. Example: dinner at Bon Ton or Casa del Mar incl. wine would be a bout 300 Ringgit for 2 people. Local restaurant can be about 10 Ringgit per head excluding alcohol.

Weather in Febr.: Sun, sun, and more sun. Hot, hot, very hot.

Hiya,

We're going for our honeymoon in May this year and really looking forward to the snorkelling - the best place advised to us is the Pulau Payar Marine Park, which is on an island 30km south of Pulau Langkawi.

Have a great time planning! :)

Re the snorkeling:

The water around Langkawi is quite murky due to the algees, sometimes the islands in the south are a bit better.

Pulau Payar (30 miles away from the main island) is very polular and you can see some fishes and corals. A lot of people enjoy the tour. Others complain that the visibily is sometimes less than 3 meters and that it can be a bit crowded. It takes a full day to do this trip and costs about 270 Ringgit per head incl. pick up and lunch box.

Next option is Koh Lipe in Thailand. I would only recommend this destination, if you stay at least for one night.

Both tours are best between Nov. and April. But the other months can be good as well, sometimes it's a bit rough on the ocean.

There are two boat operatos

East Marine Divers and Langkawi Coral.

We had a few discussions about both operators here in the forum. Check it out and make up your own mind.
