Butterworth Bus station to Lumut

This is one we haven't done before and when looking at booking agents and our fellow travelers in this forum I see there are a couple of bus group options, and through a member's post I saw there was a group only mentioned once with recommendation, Arwana Travel so having found an email address they answered one of the two questions asked - so for those that may have an interest they answered - From Butterworth to Lumut, we have two trip (Morning) 0930 and (Evening) 2200.

It's taken 3-4hours from Butterworth to Lumut. -

But they didn't indicate a booking facility and when going online three agents I tried do not come up with them as an option - so can someone assist please with

1 Have you travelled with them and how was those trips

I travelled via Arwana's buses twice last year between KL & Lumut..

Have not tried the Butterworth -lumut route..

Regarding the travel experience, their buses are in average condition as are the seats, air-conditioning.

Departure timing was followed & the coach arrive punctually as well.. There was a short break before arrival.

I will just say that when all tickets are booked out & you have only Plusliner & Arwana as your choices, chose Arwana..

I assume you are travelling to Pangkor Island then since you are going to Lumut?

Cheers

Suggest you use this website to book tickets - easybook.com/en-my/bus/booking/butterworth-t…

I think Sri Maju are the company that most people will use for that journey. The company you mentioned does not feature....

Hi Ausnomad,

Arwana Travel is a Lumut-based & I chatted with the ticket sellers each time I was there.

They are doing fine just via phone calls, faxes, emails & have no intention of making themselves available on easybook, busonlineticket, etc..

Below is their contact info as well as their Facebook page.

Arwana Travel And Tours Sdn. Bhd.

Tel : 05-6834976

Fax : 05-6834976

Email : travel_arwana@yahoo.com

https:/…

I travel often to different parts of Malaysia using different coaches & I rate Arwana as slightly above average , no frills but no cork-ups either.

For a foreign 1st time traveller on this route, I fully support PaperStoneScissors's suggestion of Sri Maju. They are amongst the Top Coach companies operating on Peninsular Malaysia & are based in Ipoh with their own coach terminal.

I have taken their coaches twice to different destinations & have nothing but praise for them. Book them in advance via the Booking websites.

I took Arwana because the internet reception on Pangkor is sometimes problematic even at the bigger resorts & Sri Maju tickets are seldom available for last minute walk-in..

I have checked on Butterworth-Lumut route on Easybook & Busonlineticket.com , no matter what happens please do not choose "Kesatuan Express"!!!

I had a daytime nightmare travelling on KESATUAN's coach from Lumut to KL's TBS.

We stopped approximately 10 times at small local terminals & changed coaches twice.

The original coach continued on to Butterworth with new passengers while the KL bound passengers had to keep changing coach.

The final coach that took all the passengers to KL did not go to TBS(private local travel buses not allowed) had air-conditioning that dripped water constantly over some seats, seats were dirty.

The coach driver & so-called conductor told all the passengers at a Rest Stop we can alight(in the middle of nowhere) we can alight if we were not happy about it.

Sri Maju is preferred & should not be your alternative!!

If you are going to be taking a few more coaches in your Malaysia travels, suggest you post on the forum for advice..

Cheers & Enjoy!!

Ddayrncm, wow thank you again for doing so much on this one

Yes I found their Facebook and from that I emailed them, with that reply I posted, based on your knowledge and what I have read book Sri Maju who I certainly hadn’t dismissed as also suggested PaperStoneScissors

Like you suggested I see what our fellow travellers think of "Kesatuan Express"!!! and had no intention of doing that – but great advice. I think your experience or simular have been unfortunately been replicated many times by our members

We have often travelled by coach from Singapore to Melaka and each time I look before but travel with Luxury who will take us into/close to China Town and we have been happy – but if you have a suggestion please let me know. Melaka to the KL airports for Penang flight I use Transnational Bus because again I can get a pickup without going to the bus Sentral first, but this time I am considering going to Butterworth by coach and have been researching this – any suggestion again very welcome

I see you specialise in Singapore where we visit often

ausnomad

Ddayrncm good evening to you, once again thank you for putting all that last post together

But before I respond – you spoke of the instance of five pickups for local passengers let me share with you about one bus trip Kep to Kampot where the bus was pretty much full to start and then the pickup started – ran out of seats so little storable stools were pulled out and the complete isle was also covered with people but it was only about 90mins or so – but we have also jumped on ‘major market’ bus runs in South America – now that’s an experience

Sorry back to your response, I am very pleased you were able to suggest some coach groups to avoid some of which I haven’t heard of but will be avoided.

As indicated the two journeys I am looking at now are Malacca to Butterworth and the one I started with in this thread George Town to Lumut

Singapore – great place which we know quite well

Good evening

Hi Ausnomad,

Sri Maju is the overwhelming favourite for this Melaka - Butterworth route.

I have taken once each for KPB Express & Cepat & Cekap. Both they were normal & uneventful.

Both are plying the Melaka Sentral - Butterworth route..

Sri Maju is preferred for any routes unless comparable coach companies like , Luxury, Aeroliner, Transtar, Grasslands are available..

I like Lapan Lapan as well..

For my selection of average 2nd tier coaches it will have to be Konsortium, KKKL ..

I experienced the same mini stool incidents on board coaches between Phnom Penh & Sihanoukville in Cambodia as well..

i went twice to both destinations but my journey is a bit longer than yours i guess..

It was hard to alight & board again during the toilet breaks.

Was also so noisy that i plugged my earphones on throughout all the journeys..

Unfortunately it was the same for 3 different coach companies i experienced there..

But in Malaysia, you definitely should try to take real "Express" coaches that doesn't pick anyone up or drop anyone early.

The only 1 that was consistently travelling express was Transtar but it's so hard to secure their coach tickets..

Cheers

10. Re: Butterworth Bus station to Lumut

Hi Ausnomad,

I like travelling by coaches & boats whenever they are available, just to see any scenery visible enroute..

In recent years, i have only travelled within a country via air in Philippines where some of the islands have no direct sea or land routes & are a lot of waiting time is involved..

Recently i was tempted to try the sleeper buses in Ho Chi Minh till my guesthouse staff warned me that a lot of accidents are still happening, especially for the night buses.. was so tempted...

Fetish towards long distance coaches ha ha!!

Cheers
