driving

we will be visiting Panama in a few weeks and would like to travel beyond Panama City possibly to Boquete and possibly a nice beach area. Id like to see where expats retire and see some of the country. Can anyone recommend a nice drive for a 3 or 4 days, places to stay along the way and comment on the ease and safety during the journey. we definitley don't want to spend more than 3 to 4 hours a day on the road. is there a beach area that does not involve ferry boats? we are an older couple and not backpackers so we are looking for comfort also. also are there other expat areas around Bouquet?

thanks for any help

Lots of expats scattered around the Chiriqui highlands. Boquete area is biggest concentration.

Volcan area is the next biggest concentration, but expats are scattered along the entire length of the road from Bugaba (Concepcion) to Cerro Punta.

Its a very long drive (about 8 hours, sometimes longer) from PC to the Chriqui highlands, but with plenty of time and breaking it up not so bad.

Beaches with no ferry: Pedasi, Las Lajas, Playa Hermosa near Boca Chica...

Other expat areas El Valle, Santa Fe, Azuero Pennisular (Pedasi, etc), David, a few developments along the road up to Boquete, a few expats live along the route between the Volcan & Boquete areas, PC and nearby, Bocas del Toro...
