trips to rio

I have seen many posts asking about trips to RIO and the Iguassa falls. We are going to Breezes in September and hope anybody can tell us if you can book trips once at the hotel. I have received a quote from our travel agent for a 3 night trip to RIO. The Itinary is: Fly UK to Salvador. On arrival at Salvador transfer to Rio by coach (approx 3-4 hours)arriving late evening. Day 2 is an organised half day trip to Sugarloaf Mountain etc. Day 3 is spent at your leisure and day 4 you return by coach to Salvador, then on to the Breezes hotel for the remaining 11 nights. The price including hotel in Rio is £295 per adult. The only drawback is having this at the start of the holiday and having to trudge suitcases. It would have been better if we could have done this mid way through our stay. Anyway I don't think the price is bad at all. I was quoted £739 for the 6 day tour which takes in Iguassa falls. Hope this info is useful.

When you refer to traveling between Salvador and Rio by coach -- do you mean coach class on one of the airlines or motorcoach/bus? If you mean motorcoach it takes far longer than 3-4 hours to go between Salvador and Rio, it is something like 16 hours by road. Maybe they mean motorcoach from Breezes to the Salvador airport and then fly to Rio? That would be 3-4 hours. I wouldn't want you to be surprised by a very long bus trip if you had not planned on it.

Airfare prices seem to have gone up quite a bit recently (since June), so maybe this will effect the price of the tour. (Note the original post was from 2005.) From prices quoted elsewhere on this site for similar trips, the operators seem to charge double what it would cost to arrange the trip yourself (including flight, hotel, transfers and guide).

Should you decide to "do-it-yourself" (when you prefer to travel and staying the number of days you prefer), the following might be helpful:

Right now, a flight on GOL (www.voegol.com.br) for mid-September is running between R$249-269 (£65-70) one way Salvador-Rio, although there is an early morning flight for R$169 (£44).

There is a convenient , inexpensive, air-conditioned bus running between the Costa de Sauipe complex and the Salvador airport.

There are many suggestions on this forum for hotels and guides in Rio.

When we were at Superclub, trips were available - 3 days from first choice rep was abt £300, included flights, hotels, sugerloaf, christ statue and some other bits, was the cheapest there, also did a rio and iguassu, was abt £650 and was 5days! Sure you wont have too much trouble!
