Be careful swimming at Mont Choisy

Bathers have reported itchy skin after swimming.

I was reading something similar on Khao Lak forum recently and the culprits were sea lice which are apparently jellyfish larva. Also see these articles:

It could be the culprit?

Coincidence that this follows on from a jelly fish warning issued 5th January at Belle Mare?

More jellyfish when the sea is warmer in summer,

The itchy problem after swimming at Mont Choisy sounds most unpleasant. Must have been bad to make sufferers go to hospital.

That's interesting as we experienced a similar thing years ago while on holiday in Egypt. Came out of the sea itching like mad with a rash, went after a few hours but was most unpleasant

Gary did anyone come up with answers as to what was causing it?

No - to be honest we didnt question it as our immediate thought was actually tiny jellyfish even though we couldnt see it anything in the water. Was the only logical explanation. Like I said, after about 3 hours it went but we didnt swim in the sea again for the rest of the holiday!!

Interesting Gary - could it be the jellyfish larva they seem to be having problems with in other parts of the world?

Too many places are being affected for it to be anything localised - Vietnam , Thailand and South east Asia, Florida, Caribbean as in my link. All seem similar.

Perhaps! This was a few years ago though before all the troubles in Sharm so I cant say 100% it was the same thing, but both of us had frantic skin itching after spending an hour in the sea and red dots. Thats why I prefer swimming pools!!!
