Attire in Victoria Island

Hi all, we are relocating to VI in a few weeks and would like to know what is "acceptable" for clothing for women. We currently live in a "muslim" country however where we live women do not cover, and they wear "expats" normal clothing, with the exception of no short shorts or short skirts. Also, as far as food shopping, can I get ethnic foods, such as asian and hispanic products?

Thanks!

Clothing - Lagos is very cosmopolitan and trendy. Western fashion is the style, and you can wear what you like . However be conservative while you find your feet , as women do tend to be smartly dressed and as with anywhere in the world there is a dress code for the people you will be hanging out most with eg shorts will be fine for swimming pools/beaches/VI but will get the wrong kind of attention in the local market. Also Lagos (unlike Cairo) is very humid so cottons/linens are more comfortable, people tend to end up in the 'local' clothes as they are cooler.

Food - again most things are available but some specialist items will be expensive or will need to be brought with you. Asian food items/veg are usually available as are similar to local ones but not sure about hispanic. You will need to post a question on one of the expat forums links as above as to specific items - we used to get lists of things to bring from people living there (usually small items that you cant make that meal without!!)

asianink are you not going to visit before you relocation? Thats the perfect time to see what is available and what is best shipped.

Most products or very similar ones are available in VI theres a big expat community you find that in those places they cater for their tastes.

As fo clothing there little difference from where your already located i would have thought.

Hi, I'd love to go have a discovery trip, unfortunately there is NO TIME, we are going on vacation in 2 weeks, and once we get back to Cairo I only have 2 days before we go to VI. Between getting our shots and visa's and movers, there is any time left for anything else...thanks for the posting!
