Travel in August.

Hi All,

This is my first trip to Delhi with family( 2 boys aged 6 & 9 years ) who are very keen to explore Delhi and visit TAJ in Agra. We will be in Delhi for 5 days and planning to travel to Agra by Shatabdhi train. We would like to stay in a hotel that has breakfast included. Kids are not used spicy food and hot weather so it is going to be a challenge. Is there a good area to stay ? how reliable are the taxi drivers?

There are great reviews of some 5* & 4* hotels but we are not sure about the area and how to get to the sightseeing places. Some one suggested staying at Piccadilly hotel and travel by metro around city. I am not sure if these places are accessible by train and not needing another transportation once we reach the destination. (For example, In Rome, you get out of the metro and the coliseum is in front of you across the street.) Is it best to go to Agra by train or take a taxi ? Our kids have travel sickness so we have to drug them if it is a 5hr journey. Can you also suggest some fun places where kids might enjoy. Please do give as many suggestions as possible. Thanks for making time for us.

And almost all the hotels have breakfast included in the room rent. The weather also wouldn't be as hot in August due to rains. It will be quite pleasant at that time.

Thanks

Hi,

In Delhi, you can take Hop on Hop off buses, and also use Metro at times. While Hop on Hop off buses will take you right at the monuments, It's not the same with the Metro.

For Agra, train would be good As you mentioned that the boys have travel sickness, you can hire a car in Agra to visit the monuments.

Kingdom of Dreams at Gurgaon (near Delhi) would be good family entertainment and enjoyable for the kids.

You can stay for 3 days in Delhi as they are more than enough for it & remaining 2 Days in Agra.

Most of the hotels offers rooms + breakfast. Since New Delhi or Agra are among the top most tourist places of India, hotels & restaurants here understand the eating habits of people & can offer you things as per your taste buds.

Most of the 5* & 4* category hotels provide good services, you can search tripadvisor for their reviews & can choose the best one for you.

You can use metro for fun ride but doing the entire sight-seeing is a bit difficult task as most of the monuments are at a distance from the metro station & you can to take the help of some other modes of transportation.

Taxi gives you flexibility to move at your own pace but if you are on a budget or wants to experience Indian life you can opt train. You can go for a taxi when you reach Agra. However with the new express highway one can reach Agra in about 3 hours approx.

The Hop On Hop Off (HOHO) bus service is good option to do sightseeing in Delhi. But do ensure that you stay at a hotel close the HOHO bus stand so you can walk down or take a tuk tuk. Metro is not a convenient option for sightseeing in Delhi. Hiring an individual cab will be more convenient for you as a family.

Travel by Shatabdi to Agra & return is a good choice. This will reduce your journey time. You can search for a reliable car provider (who can pick you up from the station) and guide in Agra who can help you around and give you a guided tour of this historical place.

Piccadly Hotel in Delhi is not a convenient option for sightseeing in Delhi. It is away from most sightseeing places. I would suggest you look for a hotel in Central Delhi (Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, South Delhi).

Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon (just located outside Delhi) is good choice for kids. You can easily spend 3-4hrs there.

Hi,

Hotel Piccadilly is too far from city centre. It would be better to stay some city centre hotel in almost same budget like The Metropolitan / The Hans/ Palace Height etc. All are in Connaught Place / vicinity which is quite centeral for metro / HOHO bus/ walking.

05 days travel plan - Delhi-02 Days > Agra - 01 Day > Jaipur -02 days

For taking experience about Indian train , you may use Delhi - Agra Shatabadi exp otherwise hiring car & driver for entire trip will convenient and hassle free , specially with kinds.

In Agra , ITC Mughal , Raddisson , Trident are good option in 04 / 05 star categories. In Jaipur , you should prefer to stay in any Heritage hotel like Taj Rambagh/ Jai Mahal or Samode Haveli if more economic can go with Royal Heritage Haveli / Khandela Haveli.

Thanks to all of your suggestions. As a result of your advise, we have dropped the idea of staying at Piccadilly and now looking at staying at city centre. Can you please suggest a good hotel ? It is utterly confusing to go by the reviews.

Metropolitan & Shangri-la both are good hotels. I been many times in both hotels, you may chose anyone. If top end then can go with Imperial.

Hello,

You must visit Kingdom Of Dreams and must experience real life stage show named Zangoora. You should pre-book it.
