Yes, you can change CAD. Better to change with banks or authorised money changers. Genrally, hotels don't give good rates.

Rex--you are probably there by now, but there are plenty of places in Toronto/GTA to exchange Canadian dollars to rupees, and you will get a better exchange rate than the banks traditionally give.
Suggest you use atm to withdraw cash in rupees some banks do not charge service charges. Talk to your bank before you leave. Banks and atms are dime a dozens. Never seen so many banks anywhere. ATMs are available at all railway and metro stations. Change your money at the arrival at the m7mbai airport after you exit. Ditto in stalling a SIM card for local telephone number. You will need this at all times. The cost is very low and they install a SIM card with free calls and text for the duration of your stay. They will require your passport and visa before they can issue you the SIM card.

There is a fabulous Currency Exchange at Yorkdale Mall. Thru the main doors by indigo bookstore and it is on the left just past the escalator that goes to the movies....next to the frozen yogurt store.
Hotels will exchange or ATM at the hotel.
