Mumbai Airports - Timing

Our last day in India is Sunday, February 10, the last day of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. We have reservations at the Taj Mahal Tower Hotel. The next morning we fly to Chicago. Our flight leaves at 06:55AM. When would we need to leave the Taj Mahal Tower Hotel for the airport? Would it be better to stay in a less expensive hotel closer to the airport? Leaving this nice hotel in the middle of the night seems like a waste of money. What do you think?

Also, we are taking several domestic flights within India. How early should we be at the various airports?

Delhi to Varanasi

Varanasi to Delhi

Jaipur to Udaipur

Jodhpur to Mumbai

Aurangabad to Mumbai

My husband has flight anxiety so we always need to have a little extra time. Suggestions, please.

Thank you.

For your international flight, you should reach about 3 hours before flight departure. Which means that you would have to leave the hotel at around 3 am.

As far as domestic flights are concerned, both Mumbai and Delhi airports are quite busy. I always try to reach around 1.5 hours before departure. There could be long lines at check-in as well as at security. Better to be safe than sorry.

I think 1 hour before departure at the smaller domestic airports is enough.

First coming to your hotel choice in Mumbai, it's better if you stay near to the airport.

There are multiple options like JW Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton or Leela.

Mumbai and Delhi airports are the busiest in country so its better if you reach at least 2-3 hours before the flight time.

The rest of the airports you mentioned are not so busy so even if you reach the airports an hour early is also fine.

For an International flight at 6.55 am, better reach by 4 am maximum stretch time. If you could reach by 3 am, it will be considerably a smooth process. Speaking of domestic flights, the ideal reach time is 2 hours prior to departure. After the security checks, spend some time at the Airport Lounge, enjoy the food and free Wi-Fi.

You need not choose less expensive place to stay closer to the airport.

Though they ll say 3 hours for international and 2 hours for domestic but 2.5 hrs and 1.5 yrs respectively is sufficient.
