January 2018 trip. Some general questions

Hello all -

I'm taking my wife to Arenal Lodge for 5 nights in January for her 40th birthday. Could use some advice.

My wife is very picky about food, and her idea of a good restaurant is good chicken fingers and mashed potatoes, maybe fettuccine Alfredo, if she's really feeling adventurous! Are there any places to eat with good food, but no seafood and something like we might find in the USA?

Also, wondering if anyone can tell me if there's good hiking at Arenal Lodge? I really want to see lots of wild life (snakes, monkeys, sloths, spiders, toucans and parrots!). I'm planning to do the hanging bridges park,La Fortuna waterfall and Tabacon Springs. Any other must-do's that I should add to the list? Not sure when we'll ever make it back, so I don't want to miss anything great!

TIA for any advice!

The chef/ owner at the Lava Lounge is from California. I know that they do a god burger. Maybe you can access their menu on their website.

I like the hiking best on the trails at the Arenal Observatory Lodge. You can use them as a day guest for

$10 pp. I also recommend a volunteer tour at Proyecto ASIS animal rescue.

food in costa rica is mostly basic. Don't think your wife will have trouble with it. Arenal is best destination for outdoor adventure activities. ck out Desafio Tours. Great fun!! costaricalearn

Arenal Lodge Hotel has a good restaurant, reasonably priced that will meet your needs. Far from anywhere else to eat at night, and challenging roads. Included breakfast buffet with something for everyone. No monkeys or raccoons that we have seen around here. We are at Lodge now. Beautiful place & hiking is good.

Getting ready to leave in the morning. I will try to provide more details when I get home. Saw toucans at Mistico Hanging Bridges.

Lava lounge is OK nothing special…just regular mediocre food…try local food..go to La Parada…that is good native food…Don Rufinos or Nenes…then we are talking about good food..

I suggested Lava Lounge because the original request was for U.S. style food. When I'm in your country I much prefer to dine like a Tico.

I appreciate all of the suggestions for both local and US style foods! I am an adventurous diner, so I'll drag my wife to some good local places and I'll try not to complain when eating like we never left home😆
