Staying place for morning flight from Liberia

We are staying at Monteverde for 3 nights and then fly out from Liberia. As our flight is at 10 AM, we thought of staying near Liberia.

Instead of staying in city, will it work well if we stay at Hacienda la Pacifica on last night ? It is 50 minutes away from Airport. Reason is, it is good bird location (as per few blogs). But will it be much different, than we already seen at Monteverde? If not much, we will stay near airport.

Second question - Considering dropping rental car and then get to airport, should we reach at least by 7:30 AM at rental car office, i.e. 2.5 hours before departure? I am yet to decide, if we will go with Adobe or Vamos (picking from SJO and drop at LIR)

Thanks

I expect the flora & fauna will be completely different at Hacienda Pacific due to considerably lower elevation than Monteverde. Looks like a great option to an airport hotel to me.

Aiming to be at the offsite depot for return by at least 730 sounds reasonable. Rental car companies will provide shuttle to LIR.

Should you wish a last nt seaside, consider Playa Hermosa & see Hotel El Velero, La Gaviota Tropical & perhaps Bosque del Mar for something fancier. Allow 45 - 60 mins for drive/car return & shuttle from there.

There's a small discount & a few perks for renting Adobe through My Tan Feet (& Two Weeks in Costa Rica as well) Worked just fine - no strings attached:)

mtinbc1 thanks.

Our last vacation spot will be Monteverde. But our flight is at 10 AM from Liberia, we don't want to drive from Monteverde to LIR Airport so early. Initially we planned to stay near LIR Airport, but then though if I can see some other 'nicer' option. Not in sense of luxury, but for flora and fauna.

Would you recommend Playa Hermosa area rather than Hacienda la Pacifica ?

I’m assuming that you’re early risers. You need to be inside the airport at 8 AM, at the very latest. I’m up early, especially when I’m in CR, but with a flight out at that time, I would stay at an airport hotel.

I guess, you are correct.

Though experiencing different hotel/area excites me, but next morning we should get up at 6:30 and reach at car rental office by 7:30, to catch 10 AM flight to US (not domestic). I will check some basic hotel near airport.

If I was to add a location closer to LIR, I would think about Bijagua, but it would deserve more time. We loved Casitas Tenorio. Do you have more than three nights in Monteverde?

Bijagua is almost 2 hours from LIR. That would make it difficult to reach by 7:30 AM.

We don’t have more than 3 nights. On our last day, after checkout from hotel, we will need stay somewhere, so we can get to airport quicker than from Monteverde. So, that gives us time from noon to late evening, if that can be usable somewhere.

Or else, if it is worth really then I can make 2 nights at Monteverde and 2 nights somewhere else, aka not too far from LIR.

I was not suggesting Bijagua for the last night. You seemed interested in adding in a location and I wondered if you had time to spare in your itinerary. A 90 minute drive is too much for the morning of your flight; I agree.

There's a lot to do in Monteverde. It can be frustrating to have only two nights, one full day up on the mountain.

Agree with plan to stay closer to LIR than Monteverde for a morning flt. I'd opt for somewhere interesting vs an airport hotel, even if it meant getting up earlier.

We thoroughly enjoyed El Velero and stayed there our last 2 nts. Great swimmable beach, epic sunsets, tidy surroundings with toes in the sand dining... what's not to like?

Returning the car & getting to LIR took less than an hour and getting through check in/security was a breeze. But.. this was mid Dec, not high season & don't know when you are travelling.

Thanks for suggestions.

I checked Hotel El Velero on our dates (in Feb, high season) and it is not available. But there are others, I can choose from. This place is max 30 minutes from airport, so (if we choose to stay here) leaving at 7 am should be good to drop the car and get to flight of 10 am, I hope
