Bus travel from San Juan del Sur, Nica to North Nicoya hard?

Hello,

I'd like suggestions with lengths of times if possible. What is the decently priced comfortable bus company around north western Costa Rica?

Is there a website with stops and schedules?

Muchas gracias in advance

Check out Tica Bus. They won't get you all the way to Nicoya but they can drop you off and you can transfer. You pick up Tica Bus in Rivas, not far from SJDS.

The Tica Bus will stop in Liberia after the border, don't think you can get them to stop sooner, doesn't hurt to ask. Great buses, comfortable, but air con is often past frigid...bring a jacket.

No, not hard. Buses are easy to find in San Juan to la frontera, then after you cross the border, take a bus to Liberia and transfer to another one straight to Nicoya.

Here is the whole country's bus schedule and lots of other helpful information;

I don't know exactly, but you do know that you can't take rental cars across the border?

To drive from Nosara to the border, and I take my time when I drive, probably would take about 4 hours. Then, if you can drive through, only about another half hour-45 minutes to San Juan del Sur.

Thanks yea , I have the intention of renting a car . There are rental companies that switch the cars at the borders to cars from Nica ;) so practical !

Do you think its worth going to Nica for 3 days only ? Do I get to see enough of pretty Nicaragua from South to Managua in 3 days by car ? It will be my first time to Nica after being gone at least 10 times to Costa .

Really looking forward to it !

Keep in mind that the companies who will meet you at the border with a car charge a hefty fee for doing so - think $150-200

It's probably better if you take the public bus to Liberia and then you can take another bus or a taxi to one of the rental car agencies near the airport.

For 3 days in Nicaragua, you won't see a whole lot. Most of the more interesting places - Granada or Ometepe - will need that whole 3 days. Otherwise, you will just spend a lot of time in a vehicle.
