On our recent trip to Costa Rica, we were fortunate to meet two excellent personal guides.
I met Lisa Valencia on Tripadvisor. She turned out to be a wonderful resource from my first email until we finally met in Puerto Viejo. Lisa answered questions, alleviated concerns, offered suggestions. Before we even traveled, I felt I had a friend in Costa Rica. Lisa watched the weather report, and helped us choose the best day for our waterfall excursion. We had an amazing and memorable day. Lisa was very knowledgable, introducing us to people on the beach, in the town, and everywhere we went. She was fun, interesting, easy to converse with, adventurous and hospitable. She took pictures so I didn't have to. She was affordable. I can't say enough. Find my new friend, Lisa at www.tripadvisor.com/members/vida_nueva_lisa.
Florentino was our guide for a jungle hike from the town of Manzanilla. Florentino was very knowledgable, interesting, and friendly. He had a keen eye to spot wildlife and native plants. He clearly loved the forest and his homeland. We saw so much and learned so much. He gave us food & drink that grew in the wild. He gave us a close up look of how people lived. It was 4+ hours of incredible beauty and adventure. I don't know of a website, but if you ask around, people will know him. Again, very affordable ($35 p.p) for our own private tour. Delightful!!
