We are looking in renting a house in Fountain Hill. How far is it to the Oak creek canyons. Saw picture looks like what we would love to see.
If you want to go I can give you directions for a very scenic route that we always take for our visitors. Very good road and you get on the highway just before Anthem. It might be about 15 minutes longer but is a lovely ride.
Would love the optional drive with a view. Thanks.
This is a very scenic ride going through beautiful horse farm estates. It’s about 10 to 15 minutes longer than taking the main highway but you will see so much more. It will take you to the main road a bit further north. Take Fountain Hills Blvd to Rio Verde Community. Fountain Hills Blvd becomes McDowell Mountain Road after you leave Fountain Hills. At the end of the road,(dead end) turn left onto Forest Rd and go about three miles passing the entrance to Tonto Verde. Shortly after Tonto Verde, turn left onto Rio Verde Drive. Stay on this road for about 20 minutes. You will pass Troon North Golf Club and the name changes to Dynamite Blvd. Turn right when you reach Scottsdale Road - well marked, Stay on Scottsdale Road to Carefree Highway and turn left. You see a medical building on your right and a small shopping center on the left. You will also notice huge boulders and beautiful homes high in the hills. You will also see a sign pointing to US 17. Take Carefree Highway about 20 minutes to the US 17 North entrance (on the way back this is exit 223 off of US 17). This is a very scenic and puts you on Rt 17 above all the traffic of the valley.
Once on Rt 17 continue to exit 298 and turn left onto Highway 179. Travel on Highway 179 to Highway 89A. The intersection of Highway 179 and Highway 89A is known as the “Y”. Rt 89A will take you up Oak Creek Canyon.
