We drove to Sodwana Beach from Hluhluwe, there is a parking area and one walks through the scrub and dunes to the beach/ocean. You might see some whales from there although land based whale watching can be done at any vantage point along the coast. You might prefer to view them from the watch tower at Cape Vidal which is north of St Lucia (not far), rather than go further north to Sodwana. I recommend doing the boat trip on Lake St Lucia to see water animals, hippos, crocs etc. You may also go to the ocean beach at St Lucia town to view whales. There may be a boat trips from St Lucia to do whale watching you would need to check this out as I am not sure. TA might shed light on the latter.

At Sodwana there is nothing to other than spend the time on the beach, swim or dive. I agree with Nooee that your rather visit St. Lucia where there is more to do and see.

Cape Town also offers some excellent whale watching from about June - November.

Hello and St Lucia a great spot and I loved whale watching with Advantage Tours. The estuary, Cape Vidal and dunes up there are stunning.

We visited both St. Lucia and Sodwana on our trip. We were hoping to snorkel Sodwana, but it was too windy. I wish we'd been advised to call ahead before making the drive, oh well. It was a beautiful spot, but other than diving or snorkeling there's nothing to do there at all.

Highly recommend St. Lucia and Cape Vidal, we had a much more sueccessful day trip there.
