Oludeniz Vs. Fethiye

Hi,

I am planning to travel from Kas to Oludeniz/ Fethiye, and then to Pamukkale. If hotel prices are same then which of these 2 (Oludeniz Vs. Fethiye) would be better option considering distance from attractions like beach, babadag, public transport, restaurants etc.? I will have my wife and kids (3 & 1) with me...

Thanks!

The most important thing you missed out is, when are you planning this trip?

Oludeniz is a seaside town/resort so it is on the beach. Babadag mountain is at Oludeniz.

Fethiye is a town about 4/5 miles away with shops, markets and harbour.

Public transport (cheap "dolmus" buses) run continually between the two. There are restaurants at both destinations and boat trips can be taken from both destinations.

Take your pick.

John

Fethiye is a working town with a marina open 12 months of the year. Calis is the beach resort next to Fethiye.

Oludeniz itself is lovely, however it doesnt really open until 1st of May. There are still people there, but you will not find many hotels or restaurants open until May. Between Oludeniz and Fethiye you also have Hisaronu and Ovacik where you will find a few more places open before May as there are quite a lot of expats living there.

Although I would always recomend Oludeniz in the Summer, mid April you may be better off staying in Fethiye and using the local Dulmus to visit Oludeniz for the day.

I agree - better to stay in Fethiye. April is still early to be sitting on a beach or swimming in the sea - weather not really warm enough. Also what do you plan to do on Babadag with 2 very young children?

Sorry but second week in April is too early for Oludeniz which is a purpose built holiday resort that opens the end of April, begining of May. The pools are usually filled then, but are very cold, also the sea will be cold at that time of year. So not a beach holiday time. Paragliding is on all year around though

Best to stay in Fethiye a working town which is open all year around and a good place to stay to tour from to see all the local areas and get the dolmus to see Oludeniz.

If you want to stay in Oludeniz move your holiday, if you can to middle of May.

Roktim H, April is a bit early for a summer holiday! But nevertheless it is a beautiful month to come on a holiday to Turkey! Some hotels try to open for the season as soon as Easter time, but many take the 1st of May as a opening date. So you might find Ölüdeniz a bit deserted. If you would stay in fethiye you will be close to the peninsula with lovely beach clubs, Help Bar has its own transfer by boat (not sure if it operates in April) but a dolmus drives to certain places. Unfortunately public transport is not so flexible that it starts earlier if the weather is good or if there are more people around because of Easter. There might be no bus going up Babadağ for instance. There is though plenty of other places where the dolmus goes all year through.

How many days are you planning to stay in or near Fethiye?

For April go and visit more into nature, it is the most beautiful month of the year.

Also for restaurants there are more options in the town, also is a way that there are more restaurants not catering for tourism only.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Have to agree with opting for Fethiye in mid April - however there are some unbelievable bargains in the hotels that are open in Oludeniz at that time of the year (do a quick search on travelrepublic) - especially if you need two rooms. Love the both places myself and wherever you end up please visit the other!
