Hello fellow travelers: Would anyone happen to know if there is a bookstore or library around Lake Atitlan that has books in English? Thanks in advance.

There is a used book store in Pana on Calle Santander, about halfway down, inside a Chinese restaurant. Closed on Sundays, opens at ten (ish). Look for the book rack or for the sign saying Book Store, which for some reason is on the opposite side of Santander from the actual book store. The rack outside is all 10Q and the most common price inside is 24Q. Return the books for half credit. Some books in Spanish but mostly in English. The store would be on the left hand side if coming from the docks, and the sign would be on the right side.

There is one in San Pedro, the trouble is describing how to get there. From the Santiago dock go towards town and take the first right, this is the main path towards the tourist strip. When you have to turn right or left, turn right, and it is just a few steps on the left.

The one in San Pedro is at the entrance to the path into the Mikaso Hotel - easy to ask direction to there, then look on your left.

The gringo bar 'Gringos Locos' roughly across from Circus Bar also has some books in English. Leave one, take one kind of thing. I don't know if that street has an actual name but if you go to the end of Santander farthest from the dock, cross the main drag and kinda bear right where you have to take a big step up to get on the sidewalk, it is about a block up on your right. If you see the hooker bars on the left, you went too far. So between Circus Bar and hooker bars but on the other side of the street. There is an aparthotel behind the bar.

Post #3 is correct. It's in a Dutch guys house. It's very dusty. 😎

The one on Santander in Pana is clean and as a bonus, the restaurant it is inside of is good. I am not sure where the owner is from. Maybe Germany. But it is not dusty. Half credit on returns is really quite reasonable. The 10Q rack is kind of played out, but inside, they have a lot of fairly complete mystery series, such as John Sanford, Sue Grafton, David Baldacci, and so forth. A fair amount of practical non-ficition as well, how-to books, language books, etc. And there are not piles of junk all over the place.
