That should be possible, but you need to know where the drop off is. Munich is extremely busy in the mornings and with little local knowledge, I would return the car a day earlier in the evening and take local transport the next day
Sorry to hear that. We are driving in from Fussen. I had hoped to see the concentration camp in Dachau and stay in a nice B&B there our last night in Germany. The B&B we like is a little out of town and requires a car to comfortably get to it. Our hope was to drive the next morning into Munich to catch our train to Italy. The AVIS drop off appears to be right next to the train station. I was hoping to just drop off the car, and walk with our bags over to the station. But it sounds like you confirmed my fears that that might be risky because of work morning traffic.
I would say that it's ok at this time if you're an experienced driver. If you want to take the train at 11:30 am, you're probably at the drop off at around 10:30 am? At this time the morning rush hour is over and the lunch hour has not yet begun.
It's still stressful in the hauptbahnhof area but it should work without bigger problems.
I agree. It can be done. Even I would do it in your situation, and I'm not the world's best driver.
However, you must know exactly where you are going. So you'd need a satnav system and/or a passenger who's good at reading maps. Then you're all set.
Thank you all for you great advice. I think we will go for it.
Did you end up going?
