looking for shopping malls

We have booked for 2 nights stopover at Doubletree, and wondering where the best shopping malls are located keeping in mind we will not have a car. Also living in Australia we hear a lot about your wal mart , are there any located close by?

If you are staying at the Doubletree near LAX here is a list of shopping centers per their web site:

You can get additional malls if you click on shopping centers in under "Shopping" in the column on the left side.

I don't know how you'll get around in LA with no car.

I can't imagine what would draw you to a Walmart.

Since you will have no car, it's going to be difficult to go to most of the shopping places listed on the above link. Here are some suggestions:

1. The Manhattan Village Mall -- this is a small-to-medium size mall in adjacent Manhattan Village. Here is their website:

(Click on each store's name for a description).

Access to the mall is easy. Take the #232 Metro bus on Sepulveda Bl (southbound) and get off at Rosecrans Av (5 minutes). The mall is just ahead on the left.

2. The southbay galleria (if big is what you want): Take the #124 metro bus eastbound on Grand Av and transfer to the #8 Torannce Bus at the corner of Nash St & El Segundo Bl. (The journey is about 30 minutes) Here is the mall's website:

Walmart is a giant discount store. There is nothing in the way of "style" at the store but if you want to buy a 20 pound jar of mayonaise for $1, then, rush right over.

If you're interested in better value on clothes that have some style, one of Walmart's competitors, Target, has introduced the notion of stylish clothes for less. I think you'd be a lot happier at a Target store than at Walmart.

The nearest Target is at 1200 N Sepulveda Bl (3 km / 1.5 miles) south of the above-mentioned Manhattan Village Mall. (You can stay on the same bus to reach it). But, keep in mind, it's not a fancy place!!

Have fun!
