day trip? what to do? father's day

thinking of going to Joshua tree for Father's day. we live in san diego (family of four) so thinking of driving up on Saturday staying overnight and then hiking on father's day. Then driving back. Not sure if that is too ambitious or doable. Any suggestions would be appreciative.

Thank you,

Totally doable, I do that all the time as a weekend trip from San Diego.

Options for lodging are in the towns of Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree and 29 Palms.

It will be warm in June, so if you want to do any of the more strenuous hikes, its best to do them in the morning. One of my favorite trails is Ryan Mountain for the 360 views of the park.

The Joshua Trees and majority of the trails are in the higher elevation northern section of the park.

Bring plenty of water and food with you into the park, as there are no services once inside the park.
