Joshua Tree photography

I'm an avid photographer and would like to plan my trip around getting the best photo ops. I'm planning to arrive late afternoon, stay for sunset, go to my hotel, come back for stargazing, and return in the morning for a few more hours. Any suggestions on the best places to go and what time to go there? Should I stay in a hotel on 62 near the west entrance or is there a better spot?

Anywhere.. Its pretty flat for the most part... and you can easily find a place for some great sunset shots atop a big rock..
