If interested, some hotels are already booked up. And some of the tours are either booked up or close to it. So if you're thinking about going, get going!
Where is the best place to see the cranes? I don't want to deal with crowds so most likely not coming during those two days.
The CDFW has tours available through February and they are small groups so I'd suggest doing that.
If you want to just go by yourself the best viewing area in on Woodbridge Road west of I-5. The road goes west until it deadends about 6 miles down. The north side of the road is the ecological reserve which is only accessible by tour. The south side of the road is open for public viewing but they request that you stay in your car as it is a farming area and they are concerned about people's safety....
So glad you are giving info for Lodi, Shiloh!
Also, the best time to see the cranes if you go on your own is early morning and late afternoon. They are amazing, and you can park at the reserve and walk along the road to the West, where you will see them in the many fields along the way. (there is a shoulder you can walk on, but yes, it is a farming area, so be cautious)
