My husband and I are empty nesters and will be visiting Palm Springs for the first time, lured by the Marriott Vacation Club (Desert Palms Marriott). We would appreciated ideas for what to do while there in a few weeks.

We also visited Palm Springs for the first time last week and stayed at the Coyote Inn...just 8 rooms...intimate...really great owners and really nicely kept grounds and rooms.
When we weren't in the pool, to get out and go, we drove around in the a/c in the heat of the day and looked at the homes... interesting mix. The architecture of the buildings are diverse as well.
We are a couple with grown children and when this inn said no children no pets we knew there was a real chance for relaxation!
Sitting out by the pool at night was neat, we saw a huge meteor streak over head and break up then fizzle out behind the op lit palm trees.
Probably not a meteor. More likely a hypersonic alien spacecraft headed for Area 51.
Drive up Palms to Pines highway from Palm Desert and make a daytrip to Anza Borrego SP. Also the advice for visiting Joshua Tree and Pioneertown is good. Don't forget to see the murals in Twentynine Palms. And for shopping try the Outlet Mall in Cabazon 20 miles west of PS.

That's funny, simba_8! LOL!
I absolutely LOVED the Palm Springs Art Museum.
Great traveling exhibits as well as an excellent permanent collection. They do serve wine in the cafe but I didn't see anyone walking around with any.
