If you are looking for a good restaurant with picture window views of the Gulf, you might try The Gulf View Grill on North Beach Road in Englewood. It's good, not spectacular, but if you make reservations and can get a good table near the windows you'll have a nicely served meal in a comfortable setting with beautiful views of Englewood Beach and the Gulf right across the street. From Rotonda this is only about a 10 minute drive.

If you want a more casual experience, underneath this restaurant at street level is their more casual outdoor beach bar that has some high top tables and casual bites. Your view will be better from the sit down Gulf View Grill upstairs, though.

Basically, on MK/Engelwood That is the only place with a true sunset view, as you need to be up to see over the dunes/boardwalk area.

there are two, across the street (ok 3 with the one that is under the GVG) the Lock and key pub, and Flounders which give you a partial sunset view (but you cant see the sun drop into the sea). If that is important, have your drink or two then walk over for the event and back again?

The closest places with restaurants actually ON the beach are in venice at the pier (both sharkey's and the new Fins), and South beach grill on Gasparilla island (boca grande) to the south.

Seems like SOMEbody on MK should renovate an old house or something to have a beachfront restaurant like South Beach in Boca Grande or Sharky's in Venice. Of course, it would make it more painful for locals getting on and off the key if that happened.

Well it would be nice for us, but given the millions houses like that cost, it could be too late to fund such a venture?

The money is there on the Key. It's just a matter of finding an investor to do it.

No. I meant the restaurant would be so expensive to buy/set up that the prices for the food would be more than the locals and tourists want to pay. As any restaurant there could not live on tourists alone but need some local support in the off season.

It is a business, so there has to be a profit. And i cant see those from CC paying Miami or naples prices for food. Or posh fancy food either.
