Hampton Inn vs Homewood suites

Anyone know which would be better as far as location and amenities? Can you walk to downtown from either? What are they near? Thx for any help.

There is no Hampton Inn or Homewood Suites within walking distance of downtown. I believe these are both near the interstate, which is probably 20 minutes from downtown (by car), and 20 min from the beach.

Mplstraveler, just want to make sure that you realize that Sarasota isn't on the beach (it sits on Sarasota Bay). So even if you stay in a place within walking distance of downtown, you'd have to drive (or take a cab, Uber, bus) out to the "barrier" islands (Siesta Key, Lido Key, Longboat Key, Anna Maria Island) to be on the beach/Gulf of Mexico.

The Hampton Inn Sarasota is on University Parkway - near the airport. The closest attraction is the Ringling Museum (www.ringling.org) at the corner of University Parkway & US 41 (aka Tamiami Trail). It's only about a five minute drive otherwise. Don't know what the noise would be like being just a mile or so from the airport.

Homewood Suites is on Fruitville Road - that's about a five minute drive (or less) to US 41 as well.

Will let SRQGirl or any of the other locals jump on here and let you know restaurants in that area ... we always stay out on the islands and rarely venture into Downtown Sarasota (although the Marina Jack II at the corner of US 42 and Ringling Blvd - the causeway that goes over to St. Armand's Circle is great!!).

Seems to me more than five min from downtown, if these are by the airport. I would sooner do an Airbnb or VRBO before staying there myself....

Not too far from Bradenton, and inexpensive places to eat. Kinda far from the beach...

How much did you want to spend per night for the hotel room? when will you visit?

There are options in walking distance to the downtown...

Then the other must be horrible. Stayed at many Homewood Suites and that was the worse. It had been a nursing home before than after a bad conversion became what it is. Parking terrible, needed to park in bad parking lot just to right of hotel. Dishes, utensils dirty,frequently,a/c right next to living room tv and very noisy,tv was constantly being made louder and softer when ever a/c kicked on or off. There was more of a list of complaints I won't add. Stay Away!!!
