We are looking for a waterfall with a swimming hole! Any ideas? Which is best?
One swimming hole that we always brought the kids to was Dick's Creek. The hole is right at the foot of the falls. I mapped a round trip. The southern leg is only about 30 minutes or less. The northern loop brings you up over a couple mountain ridges and crosses the Appl. Trial at least twice. This is a very scenic drive. You'll also pass DeSoto Falls St Park where you can walk to 3 waterfalls. Also, search for Helton Creek Falls. About 5 minutes off the road. Usually a trickle, but after a heavy rain it's an amazing sight.
Unfortunately I remember seeing glass around there, so make sure everyone is wearing old sneakers or water shoes.
Second to Dick's Creek recommendation. Story in today's newspaper that two people had to be rescued from Panther Creek in Tallulah Gorge, one due to an injury requiring him being airlifted out from a fall and the other from heat exhaustion. Also, 3 of the rescuers also had to be treated, two for heat exhaustion and one also had to airlifted out due to unspecified medical reasons.
