Crane Memorial Beach

Looking at going to Crane Memorial Beach to do a little hike. We are staying in Rockport. Can you recommend anything do do and/or see between Rockport and Crane? Or is there anything else near the Crane Memorial Beach area that you would recommend? Thanks! Sounds like Rockport will be a little cool to sit at the beach next week so looking for some alternatives.

Ipswich, Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Newburyport are all towns worth seeing that wouldn't be very far out of your way. Newburyport would be my top choice of those.

Crane Beach has a $25 entrance fee. If you are only going to hike try Halibut Point in Rockport. or Parker River in Newburyport or Maudsley State Park in Newburyport.

Crane Beach is beautiful and you can walk along the beach forever (almost!) as well take trails through the dunes. Under the same admission fee, you can also visit adjacent Castle Hill, which offers gardens to stroll and more trails to hike. You may also be able to tour the Great House (additional charge for this).

Since you'll be going thru Essex on the way to Cranes from Rockport, you could stop at Woodman's or Farnhams or many of the other seafood shacks you'll pass on the way. If you take 133 back thru Gloucester you could try the Causeway Restaurant for huge portions of fish. Giant bowl of mussels and a piece of broiled haddock that would be 3 potions at most restaurants. You could then take the beach roads 127A back into Rockport rather than 127. Good Harbor and Wingaersheek beaches are both worthy destinations. There's also an awesome little beach at the Annisquam lighthouse you can hike to thru a small hilly park.

If the weather turns foul (even if it doesn't), you could visit the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. Lots of other intersting things to see and do in Salem.
